A video has resurfaced from May of last year of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparking a national debate about free speech. Specifically about Israel and just how far the United States should go to defend a foreign ally. In the video, Rubio says they will hold individuals and international organizations accountable for “rhetoric” against Israel. The administration says the policy is aimed at combating anti-Semitism. But here’s an important question: Who determines what crosses the line from protected political speech to actionable rhetoric? And what standards are used to make that determination?
